About "PROJECT FUKUSHIMA!"
As a result of the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, Fukushima Prefecture was not only devastated by quake and tsunami damage but also suffered the unprecedented tragedy of radioactive contamination from the Tokyo Electric Power Companys accident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant. In response, Michiro Endo, Otomo Yoshihide, Ryoichi Wago and other musical artists and poets who were born or reside in Fukushima launched PROJECT FUKUSHIMA! in cooperation with volunteers both inside and outside the prefecture.
"Even amidst a crisis that may cause our hometowns to be lost, we would like to think about the future of Fukushima by retaining its connection with the outside world and the hope of continuing to live in this land. For that too, we need a festival. We need a place where people can gather to converse. Through the festival, we will let the entire world know about Fukushima as it is now, and as it will be in the future. We are determined to turn Fukushima into a positive word." (Excerpted from the PROJECT FUKUSHIMA! Mission Statement).
Launched in May 2011, the Project held FESTIVAL FUKUSHIMA! on August 15 of the same year at the Fukushima citys Village of Four Seasons (Shiki-no-Sato) and Azuma ballpark and attracted attendance of over 10,000. In addition, the Project continues to pursue a variety of activities including the operation of the DOMMUNE FUKUSHIMA! Internet broadcasting station, SCHOOL FUKUSHIMA! (a place of learning) and DIY FUKUSHIMA! (a unique venue that both raises funds and provides artists who share the Projects vision with a place to exhibit their works.)
Over a 12-day period from August 15 to 26 in 2012, FESTIVAL FUKUSHIMA! 2012 will be held not only in Fukushima Prefecture but also at many locations around Japan and the world. Endorsed by PROJECT FUKUSHIMA!, these are worldwide synchronized events. This years theme is "flags" and the event is titled "Flags Across Borders". Using the 6,000-square-meter Fukushima O-Furoshiki (Fukushimas big furoshiki wrapping cloth)" which unveiled at the Village of Four Seasons (Shiki-no-Sato) last year, we will make thousands of flags. Huge furoshikis will also be on display at various sites in the city and the sky will be filled with flags. In addition, various venues taking part in this global synchronized event will also be raising flags, each uniquely expressing their participation. Through this project, we hope to see countless flags waving in the skies above towns and cities in Japan and around the world.
People who spot a flag are urged to take a photo with this app, add a comment and post it. Location data will be automatically acquired (however, users have the option of turning location data OFF), and the site of where the photo was taken will be displayed on a map on the PROJECT FUKUSHIMA! website. Of course, the map can also be viewed from this application. You can also use the app top menu to display an animated view of the latest posted flag locations.
"The future is in our hands". It is our hope that you will enjoy seeing the message of the flags spreads around the world.
This app will also help you find various FESTIVAL FUKUSHIMA! 2012 event information and view REPORT PROJECT FUKUSHIMA! for details about PROJECT FUKUSHIMA! activities in 2011.
